Since 2012, the Research Unit of IDC Las Americas has been structured with the purpose of promoting scientific research as a central axis that promotes the development of critical thinking and new knowledge, the provision of evidence for decision making, as well as promoting and formulate policies that benefit patients and contribute to the establishment of a system of scientific research, always bearing in mind the humanistic and ethical principles that guide the work of IDC Las Americas.

In 2014 and 2015 the Research Group was recognized by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation - Colciencias, in the highest categories among the cancer research groups in the country, this award allows us to access research calls and made possible by the linking of IDC Las Américas specialists as researchers, as well as national and international awards for research, articles published in national and international journals, teaching and training activities in Educational Institutions and the holding of national and international academic events.

Currently the unit carries out collaborative work in oncological research and advice on the quality of life of cancer patients.

The Research Group is Certified in Good Clinical Practices to carry out investigations with medicines in human beings by Resolution of INVIMA, number 2013033732 from November of 2014 and has an Independent Ethics Committee carries out evaluation and monitoring of research protocols and guarantees the integrity of the patients participating in the investigations.
